Government Assistance for Papuan Society to overcome Covid-19 pandemic

In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic,  Papua regional police command chief Inspector General Paulus Waterpauw together with The spirit of Papua community on 4 July 2020 have provided food assistance to residents of Entrop, South Jayapura District, Jayapura, Papua. A total of cases with Covid-19 in Papua is 1.937, 991 in care, 926 people recovered and 26 people deaths. The recovery rate is still above 1 or 1.8 for Jayapura City. Chairman of the Covid-19 Handling Task Force in Jayapura City Rustam Saru has decided not to implement new normal policy.

Meanwhile, Papua Province’s COVID-19 Spokesman Dr. Silwanus Sumule said  request society to continue practice of healthy living behaviour (PHBS) by wearing a mask and maintaining physical distancing. He added,”we have followed up the rapid test results by taking swab samples for further PCR [polymerase chain reaction] tests to get accurate results on whether they are positive for COVID-19 or not.”

Assistance continues to be distributed to Papuans. Not only self-help (swadaya) activity, but Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy also distributes nine kinds of basic needs (sembako)  to 1,030 entrepreneurs creative industries (UMKM) businesses in Biak Numfor.
