McArthur memorial in West Papua and its relevance today

Old soldiers never die, they just fade away (Indonesia language : Prajurit tua tidak akan pernah meninggal, dia hanya bakal surut ke belakang).


West Papua (AP) – If a group of people or families have different hobbies such as loving to learn history, enjoying beautiful nature views, and having photography, no worries, while they are staying in West Papua, they can still go picnic in only one area.  It is McArthur Monument.

This monument was built to commemorate a legendary general called Douglas McArthur during the World War II. It is true Papua Island became one of the locations of battles between Nippon and Allies. The monument also becomes a symbol of the entry of Allies Army in Papua. It was in 1944. They came to Papua to deal with Japan, who ruled the area and Filipina at the time.  To see the monument which is located in Sentani District, you can stay at Yasmin Hotel, Aston Jayapura Hotel and Swiss-Belhotel Jayapura.

The Pacific War did not destroy West Papua but it built West Papua, carried out by both the US and Japan

The relevance of McArthur today is United States champions a free and open Indo-Pacific. West Papua will witness that the world will not allow Beijing to treat the South China Sea as its maritime empire.
